Ashley M. Emick
Ashley graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iowa in 2005, with a double major in Communication Studies and Political Science. Ashley received her law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2008. Ashley joined the firm in August of 2008 and became a full partner in the firm January 1, 2013. She is admitted to practice in Iowa and the Northern and Southern District of Iowa, as well as the US Tax Court. Ashley is also a trained mediator.
Ashley is married to Humboldt native, Brad Emick, and they have three children. Outside of work, Ashley enjoys traveling, golf, cooking, and spending time with her family. Ashley also devotes a great deal of time outside of the office volunteering and being active in the community.
Ashley’s practice is a general practice with most of her time devoted to real estate, estate planning and probate, elder law, juvenile law, taxation, and business formation.

Brett D. Legvold
SHAREHOLDER
Brett graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 2004. In 2007, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Wartburg College. Brett then earned his law degree in 2010 from the University of Kansas School of Law. Before joining the law firm, Brett practiced for the Martin Pringle law firm in Wichita, Kansas.
Brett is married to his high school sweetheart, Katie Legvold (Cooper), and they have three children. Outside of work, Brett enjoys golfing, traveling, spending time with family and friends, being a “foodie,” supporting the Iowa State Cyclones, and actively participating in his community. He has served as a volunteer director of various organizations, including the Humboldt Country Club, Humboldt-Dakota City Chamber of Commerce, and Kiddie Cats Child Care and Learning Center, and he is a member of the Humboldt Rotary Club.
Brett’s law practice is a general practice with the majority of his time spent in the areas of estate planning and probate, real estate, business organizations, municipal law, agricultural law, and employment law. As a general practitioner in rural Iowa, Brett understands the importance of being a person whose counsel is sought after and trusted on a variety of matters, and he prides himself on providing candid advice and professional service. Brett’s approach to the practice of law is simple and direct. That is, clients are best served being advised on what they need to know regardless of the circumstance, which is founded upon Brett’s great respect and admiration for the importance of the rule of law in American society.

Robert L. Myott
SHAREHOLDER
Bob graduated from Buena Vista University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science Degree with a double major in Accounting and Finance & Banking. Bob earned his law degree from Drake University Law School in 2015. While in law school Bob was involved with the Student Bar Association, Elder Law Clinic, and Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic. He also interned for James R. Monroe, Homesteaders Life Company and the ISU Athletics Compliance Office.
Prior to law school Bob worked as a staff accountant for several years at a Fort Dodge, IA CPA firm where he prepared individual and corporate tax returns, performed audit procedures for an array of clients, prepared monthly bookkeeping/financials, and provided payroll services. Immediately after graduating from law school, Bob practiced with the Iowa law firm of James R. Monroe, an office that focused primarily on tax controversy and tax litigation work. Bob joined the firm in December 2016 and became a full partner in the firm on January 1, 2020. Bob is admitted to practice in Iowa, as well as the United States Tax Court.
Bob is married to Humboldt native, Kylee Myott (Myers) and has one child. Outside of work, Bob enjoys golfing, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Marc D. Arends
OF COUNSEL
Marc graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School after spending most of his childhood in Humboldt. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Cornell College in 1970 and after serving a year on active duty with the Iowa National Guard, received his law degree from Drake University in 1974.
Marc practiced law in Des Moines for two years before joining Bob in practice in Humboldt in 1976. Marc was the Assistant Humboldt County Attorney from 1976 until 1985. Marc is married to Humboldt native, Linda (Sande) Arends and the couple has two grown daughters and five grandchildren. Marc is now “of counsel” status with the firm allowing him to travel and spend more time with his family.
Marc is a member of the Congregational Church and the Humboldt 7 O’Clock Kiwanis.

Robert E. Lee
Bob graduated from Humboldt High School in 1966. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Secondary Education from the University of Iowa in 1971. He received his law degree from Washburn University School of Law in 1975.
Upon graduation he accepted the position of Humboldt County Attorney, a position he held until 1985. He is a current member of the 7 O’Clock Kiwanis and the Humboldt-Dakota City Chamber of Commerce. In the past he was active in a number of civic and charitable organizations. He was City Attorney for the Cities of Dakota City and Bode.
Bob is married to Humboldt native, Jane (Edge) Lee and the couple has three grown children and five grandchildren. Bob is now “of counsel” status with the firm which allows him to enjoy more time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoys fishing and hunting, even with limited success.
